Flat leaves with a garlic twist

Unlike the hollow, round leaves of common chives, garlic chives have flat, strappy foliage and a distinct mild-garlic taste that suits stir-fries, dumplings, eggs and salads. Their starry white late-summer flowers are edible too and loved by bees. Growing garlic chives from seed

Sow in spring in trays or directly into well-drained soil, and keep the surface lightly moist until seedlings appear — germination can be a little slow, so patience pays off.
